This is a simplified representation of the microstructure of HS-6-5-2 high-speed steel, annealed. The majority of the structure is composed of Martensite (represented by the irregular shapes), with Carbides (smaller dark spots) dispersed throughout. If the steel has been annealed, there may also be areas of Ferrite (larger, lighter spots).
